KC Man Acquitted in 2015 Shooting Death of A Grandmother
grice@kcstar.com-A Jackson County jury on Friday acquitted a 34-year-old man accused in the 2015 shooting death of a grandmother of seven that took place outside a residence in east Kansas City.
Antwan L. Fayne of Kansas City was charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Jossette Beeks, 46, who was shot in the back while sitting with a group of people on the porch at 814 Indiana Ave.
Jurors deliberated for nearly two hours Friday before reaching their verdict.
“We are very relieved and happy that the jury seriously considered all of the evidence,” said John Picerno, who represented Fayne in the criminal trial. “The physical evidence illustrated that it could not have happened as the prosecutors alleged.”
Authorities said Beeks was sitting on a porch and was shot as she turned to escape the gunfire.
Fayne had previously pleaded guilty to drug and domestic assault offenses, according to court records.
